This piece was inspired by three things: 1) the wonderful people at First Presbyterian Church in Creswell, Oregon, where I have had the honor to serve as Pianist/Organist/Choir Accompanist, 2) my friendship with Beth Wheeler, who is the Pastor’s wife there as well as a Professor of Music Education at the University of Oregon — and a very gifted flutist, and 3) the colorful golden .

The main emphasis is on vocal music and most compositions are written to be sung. When played on instruments, they are meant to be performed in a singing style known as 'gayaki'. Carnatic Instrumental music dates back to thousands of years when instruments such as 'Yazh' and 'Flute' were in vogue.

-Violin Concerto by Mieczyslaw Karlowicz. A great concerto by an unjustly overlooked composer. Personally, I think this is every bit as deserving of wider attention as many of the other standard Violin Concertos of the era. (My preferred recording is the one on Hyperion with Tasmin Little, but the linked one is fine.).
